vic_birthday

My birthday is this Saturday, November 14th, and I’ll be turning 38 years old. Accordingly I plan on doing 11 exercises (3 + 8 = 11) for 38 reps each.

What exercises would you like to see me do? And oh yes, there will be video.

Leave your exercise suggestions in the comments below and I will add them to my workout!

Deck-squat burpee muscle-ups.

Holy shit man! Don’t know if I can pull that one off, as I need a pretty hefty kip for the muscle up still. And muscle ups / dips might be a no-go as I’m nursing a minor shoulder injury. But we’ll see. . . Thanks!

How about thrusters or the jumping jack push press? Throw in some ball slams or dust off the water pipe!

Have a happy birthday!

Let’s see… how about
- Wide grip Pull-ups
- Power Clean
- Push Press

Thats it from me

There will be some form of overhead lift in there for sure (even though I have a bit of tender shoulder right now). And I like the power clean, even though my technique is still improving. Pull ups. . . yeah gonna have to sneak some of those in there in one form or another. This is going to be fun. :) Thanks!

Muscle-ups

I’ve never done them myself (and I’m 40), but that’s not difficult for you, Vic

Second request for muscle ups. Hmmm. I’m nursing a minor shoulder thing that might prevent that. And 38 straight could take some time. Might have to mix them through out the circuit if I do them. I’ll keep them in mind. Thanks!

I’m sorry about your shoulder problem.

It’s just that you convinced me about the virtue of compound exercises. ;-) Of course, I don’t want you to have pain afterwards.

A standing barbell shoulder press, you choose which you think is the best, military, behind the neck, alternating the two or another that you may recommend and demonstrate.
Ps. have a great birthday and workout.

Lots of request for the overhead lifts. I will push weight overhead in some form – promise! Thanks. :)

How bout flipping the big tire end over end across the gym for a certain number of times? Gotta be better than draggin it AND it’ll work your whole body flipping that thing.

Comment by Vic Magary
2009-11-12 12:35:13

Love some tire flips. But the one I have is pretty small. If I do tire flips, I’ll combine it with a broad jump over the tire. Thanks!

I’m recommending Sledgehammer Strikes, Box Jumps (36″ or higher) and Power Clean and Press

Happy 38th Vic, have a great day Saturday!

Comment by Vic Magary
2009-11-12 12:36:34

Shit, I wish I could get up a 36″ box 38 times! But now the 32″ box I have. . . we’ll see.

And more votes for sledgehammer work and power cleans. . . I’m loving this. Thanks!

I just started box jumps last month, and I am up to the 30″ at this point; I normally do 3 or 4 sets of 10 (after doing the 18″ and 24″ boxes).

Not bad for a guy pushing 310lbs LOL

Again, Happy Birthday Vic

PS – after the “38″ workout are you going to a few 12 ounch bicep curls? LOL

100 burpees for time.

Oh there will be burpess. But only 38. So they will probably be some sort of “advanced” burpee. Thanks!

Hey Vic,

I say throw some thrusters and double unders in.

Looks like you have some good ideas…I have to think, any way you slice it the 418 reps is gonna hurt. :)

Have a great B-Day!

Mike

OK Vic,

Squat–Frog legs–muscle up–pull & jerk.

3.8 reps of that would be impressive, let alone 38!

Happy Birthday, have a good one.

Thrusters baby!
I would say 135#, but since I know your shoulder is sore, go for 95#.

Hmmm, if it wasn’t for your shoulder, I’d say handstand pushups (against a wall), in four sets… I always see stars after doing some :-)

How about my personal favorite…the burpee box jump? Nothing like combining two classics! :)
Maybe you should get 38 of your on-line buddies to join you in the main room for this event…personally, I can’t do ANY of the things listed for 38 reps, but it sure would be fun to watch!!

Happy Birthday, Vic! You rock

Vic,
My 57th is coming next Wednesday, the 18th and I DO NOT plan to do 12 (5 + 7) exercises 57 times. To me, 38 is a skate in the park! Happy Birthday from one Scorpio to another. Good luck.

Hi Vic!
I might not be able to get online for a couple of days so here’s wishing you a very very Happy Birthday! I don’t have any suggestions because I still am not such an expert but definately look forward to seeing the video.
P S: You could also do another one about your inspiring posts for the occasion. I know all of us love reading those. Maybe what you feel you have learned about fitness.

As many burpees with a pressup and a tuck jump you can do in a minute, anything less than 38 you start again :)

12-ounce curls and cake lifts – not necessarily together (and personally, I’d advise against it).

FOR YOUR 38th BIRTHDAY

ANYTHING WITH BURPEES….. How about burpees with your weighted vest on and when you jump, you bring your knees to your chest???? Haha, I know you hate me for this suggestion!

HSPU was first thought, but not with bum shoulder! I don’t remember all that everyone else said, so there might be repeats!

wall balls
walking lunges with plate (as close to 38# as you can get)
11 X 38 mtr sprints
sledgehammer (my favorite)
tire flips
thrusters
L-pullups
knees to elbows
Snatches (db,kb, or bar) (and shouldn’t every single man celebrate his birthday with a little…..hehe!)
burpees…maybe into a pullup or onto a box…
box jumps
deadlifts
ring dips
heavy kb swings or
single armed kb swings

Have fun!!!! Can’t wait to see what the final product is!!!! happy birthday!!!! :)

Sorry for the late answer. I would vote for something quick and satisfying: Tabata combo Squats/Burpees/Push Ups/Lunge Jumps. Order is up to you.
(extracted from your 31 day challenge).
Did it only twice and it nearly killed me (but I am 47, you are a young puppy.

Happy B-Day,

Happy BDay old man…I’ll be 38 in a couple months…so I’ll join you at that time…but I would say for a bday workout it should be:

38 clean and press
shot of tequilla
38 burpees
shot of tequilla
38 pullups
shot of tequilla
38 box jumps
shot of tequilla

Then just go hit the dance floor….
