I posted this on my Facebook page a week or so ago and totally forgot to put it up on here… Its some video from a few days of my training, and I narrated a few of the reasons why I train….
Leave me a comment below with the reasons you train/workout, I think this could be a good discussion…

I mainly run, but I still would love to share, because I’ve actually been thinking about this lately.
I train because I don’t remember the hundreds of people that I pass every month when I’m running. I remember the two or three that pass me. And I know that I can be faster than them, I just need to work to get there.
I train because my family has a history of heart disease, and I don’t want to have to worry about that.
I train because I’m running to make a difference. I’m running the NYC Marathon in Nov for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. I’m running to fight cancer and raise money so that others don’t have to suffer in the future. I’m running for them. I train so I’m stronger, faster, and can perform as best as possible on Nov 1 when I run the streets of New York with 249 other brothers and sisters trying to make a difference.
On day 11 of the fat burning challenge – down 2 pounds, I can tell I’ve toned a lot already.
GREAT stuff vic! i just twittered this to my network – http://twitter.com/theMattHart
expect a “hart bump” similar to the “colbert bump”! =)
Thanks for the “Hart Bump”, Matt.
Seriously, many thanks for spreading the word. Or video as the case may be.
Loved the video Vic – especially the fade to back part – wicked. Why do I train – I train because of vanity – I want to look toned and fit. But perhaps moreso, I want to feel toned and fit. I feel better about myself when I am fit – when I gain weight, I feel sluggish and just wrong. I train out of fear; fear that I won’t be able to do the things I want to for as long as I want to – to dance, to run, to hike… I train because it is so easy for me not to – one day off can quickly snow ball into two, then next thing you know a whole week is gone by. I train because it’s a wonderful feeling to get stronger, to lift weights I never thought possible. Those are some of the reasons.
I train for the exact same reasons…minus the dancing part. I just feel better all around when I’m in good shape, and feel more confident in everyday life. And when I fall off due to whatever reason (usually work related), I feel much worse, and it’s harder to get back into it. That’s why it’s so important for me to keep it up.
Thanks…solid vid.
I loved the video!! Here are some of the reasons I train
I train because I enjoy it, I enjoy pushing myself to see if I can do more.
I train because if I don’t, I’ll very easily regain the weight I’ve lost so far.
Hey Vic,
I do it because it’s fun! I feel so alive when I unleash my body
It’s such a great feeling!
Great vid!
Thanks, Kira. You know you can post any of my vids to thefightgeek.org if the moment strikes you.
I train, because my body was designed to kill.
We all are.
-Mike
I train because it’s fun. I train because it feels good. I train so that I can be around to witness my daughter’s first date, her graduate college, and to walk her down the aisle.
Because I want to be able to do the things I’m doing today tomorrow, and for the rest of my life.
Vic — Love visiting Gym Junkies because there’s no hype. Just a real guy working hard.
I’ve trained the Olympic lifts and other skills for the last two years at CrossFit Boston. I learn new things about technique each week. It might be that I’m a slow learner … but there are some things in life that reward continued attention. Learning to be capable of more (whether in body, mind or spirit) is essence of living.
I train to be strong. I train to look good. I train for my health. I train for energy. I train for the adrenaline rush. I train to push myself. I train for my own longevity. I train to set an example for those around me. I train to get stronger, faster and leaner. I train for my sanity and my own peace of mind. Besides, if I can get through a grueling workout, the rest of my day seems like child’s play.
Wow, you’ve read my mind..
Keep on pushing hard my friend.
Awesome vid buddy! Twitted.
Many thanks for spreading the word!
I train for many reasons, but for one reason that many fitness trainers forget to mention. Because I like it.
Interesting vid, nevertheless. By the way, I just created a new fitness site called thefitnessadviser.com concentrating a getting into shape healthily with an emphasis on healing and preventing injuries. I have some pretty interesting stuff there and I think you might really enjoy it!

Nicely done! There’s a little bit of poet in each of us.
I train because I was the fat kid. I train because I enjoy being healthy, because I enjoy how it feels and looks to look good. I train for myself, to be better, stronger, more functional. I train because I CAN, thanking God every day that I have the ability to run, lift weights, do squats (even if I hate them), etc.
I train because it’s the right thing to do.
For me because I am not getting any younger (turned 47 a few weeks ago) and training helps me stay young in mind and body.
Being able to do better than most younger guys at the gym at work is rewarding, so there is some vanity, probably…
And I can indulge myself with good food and wine and feel less guilty.
Mostly I train because it makes me feel alive.
And that is darn good!!!

At 66 Yrs one does not train for size anymore, hopefully we are smarter than that.
I train so I can be walking without help at 90.
I train to remain healthy
I train to keep my weight down
I train because I can, there are too many that can’t
I train because I love the feel of my body exercizing
I train because I love the feel of the iron
I don’t train for the look, but the body comes with the hard training.
And I train because unlike a lot of us who won’t admit it,I AM VAIN
“I train because I can, there are too many that can’t”. Right on Steve. That’s exactly what I meant in the first line when I say “Because I am blessed”. It’s too easy to take for granted the mobility that we have. A few years ago I spent a day in a wheel chair as empathy training. Check the video out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UroiglI6tw
I train because I have to. This is the only body that I have, so I have to take care of it. A history of high blood pressure in my family also tells me that I have to take care of my body.
Besides, who doesn’t like the feeling of true strength and improved sex drive? I know I do.
I train so when “Fight or Flight” kicks in, I can do either.
Thank you all for your comments! It’s great digging into the motivations behind our trainings. I read somewhere once that if you have a big enough “why”, you’ll always find the “how”. Keep the comments coming!
What is that Kettlebell exercise called, a 2 handed bottoms up snatch?
could be wrong but I think its just a 2 handed kettlebell swing
It is a two hand kettlebell swing. The swing can be done to about eye level or it can be taken overhead like in the video. Sometimes you will see the eye level referred to as “Russian Style” and the overhead as “American Style”.
awesome VIDEO…
my main “why do i train”? because I can… because there are so many people out there who are physically unable to for so many reasons..and thankfully… I am blessed to not be one of those people..
I am blessed with good health and strong mind and a passion to push myself every day just to see if I really do have any limits.. because I finally know… after 50 years..the only limits I have.. are the limits I place upon myself…
I have spent too many years on the ‘outside watching”… I am enjoying finally just DOING IT… and loving every damn day that I DO…
quite simply…
because I CAN today…
I don’t know what is in store for me tomorrow…
but TODAY…
thankfully..
I CAN TRAIN~
Who broke your heart?
because she broke my heart – hard hitting ending – well for me – nice video make just want i need to get back into thing ( pulled muscle in middle back at work )
I train not to find my limits, or test my limits, but to continually demonstrate to myself that there are no limits – there is nothing I can’t achieve with focused attention and consistently applied effort.
wow Karri… I like!
awesome video, I needed that
Came over from Bjpenn.com Love the vid man. Will be subscribing.
I train simply because I love it. It’s a lifestyle choice.
Thanks, man. And welcome to GymJunkies.
